Hotel Villa Scacciapensieri Siena

The "Villa Scacciapensieri" is a marvellous 19th century Villa set in its own large park and gardens perfectly situated on top of a little hill only 2.5 km north of the medieval walled city of Siena, hidden just on the border of the Chianti wine region with its green rolling hills. All the major sights of Tuscany are in easy reach of this four star family run hotel that offers a warm and peaceful blend of old world charm and an excellent restaurant with professional, attentive service. The Villa and its surrounding gardens are an oasis where one is allowed to relax and enjoy the true Tuscany.

The main Villa, constructed in the late 1790's - early 1800's, offers elevator access to rooms on the two upper floors, while the restaurant "Altri Tempi", the cosy bar/lounge with open fire place, library, the little private chapel and the media-room (Internet access, television, video) are all located on the ground level beside the 24hr Reception Desk. The two annex buildings "Limonaia" and "Villino" are both very close to the main Villa.

The swimming pool close to the the outdoor restaurant overlooks the Chianti hills. We also have a tennis court, bicycles and parking for the exclusive use of our guests, there is no charge for these facilities. Garages and professional private tennis lessons are available upon request for a little extra charge. Motor cars are not allowed into Siena so travelling into the city could not be easier than taking one of the public buses that pass in front of our driveway every 15 minutes, weekends every 30 minutes.

There are 3 suites, 4 single rooms and 24 double rooms, all offering a completely private bathroom, hairdryer, air conditioning, Sat. TV, direct telephone and minibar.

Our restaurant "Altri Tempi" (non smoking, air-conditioned) has been synonymous with prestige and elegance for more than 70 years. The preparation of the dishes is very accurate thanks to the ingenuity and experience of the Chef and his kitchen brigade, and only the freshest seasonal and regional ingredients are used. The service is very personalised and attentive, making the guest feeling pampered and taken care of and always at the centre of the attention.

Our restaurant can offer both an à la carte menu and a daily menu specializing in regional dishes and home made pastas. Whenever possible we make use of the clement weather by serving our traditional breakfast, lunch and evening dinner outside on the terrace under wisteria and linden trees.

Cómo llegar

BY CAR FROM FLORENCE: Leave the city centre and drive in the direction marked Galluzzo, Siena, Firenze Certosa. At the Certosa junction take the superstrada ( 4 corsie, 4 lanes ) from Florence to Siena. As you approach Siena ( 60 km south of Florence ), take the first exit marked SIENA NORD and follow the signs to the centre (right). Pass the ESSO petrol station and at the second set of traffic lights turn left following the signs for Stazione / Ospedale / Camping and finally Villa Scacciapensieri and Basilica dell'Osservanza. The Hotel is situated between the new hospital (ospedale) and the Basilica dell'Osservanza. Don't worry, it is very easy.

BY CAR FROM ROME: Take the autostrada from Rome ( A1 ) in the direction of Firenze/Milano but leave at exit marked Sinalunga (Val di Chiana ), which is around 190 km north of Rome. From here pass through the toll booth and follow the signs for Siena. As you approach Siena ( 38km west of Sinalunga ) ignore all turn offs and go straight on until you arrive at a series of roundabouts. In this way you will finally pass under a bridge with arches and at the next roundabout you take a righ which makes you pass under a smaller bridge in direction of Montevarchi. Almost at the top of the hill, after less than 1 km, turn left, following signs for Camping / Villa Scacciapensieri / Basilica Osservanza. The Hotel is situated between the Basilica Osservanza and the hospital (ospedale). Easy.

BY TRAIN: There are trains from Rome to Siena, though none are direct, they all involve a change at Chiusi ; they leave Roma Termini quite regularly. There are regular trains from Florence too, but some involve a change at Empoli. The trains from Pisa all involve changing at Empoli, but they are very regular. From the railway station here in Siena it takes less than five minutes to reach the Villa. It is also possible to take the public bus number 3 which passes every 30 minutes ( in the direction Scacciapensieri, not direction city centre ). Remember to buy tickets before you get on the bus.

BY BUS: From Rome there are fast, efficient intercity coaches that leave opposite Roma Tiburtina ; it's a 3 hr coach ride to Siena. The best option, arriving at Siena, is to leave at the train station and from there take a taxi or bus number 3. The fast and regular express coaches from Florence take just over an hour to arrive in Siena, from where one can take a taxi to the Villa, or bus number 3 (main bus station, Piazza Gramsci) or 8 (Piazza del Sale).
