This elegant 19th-century residence surrounded by baitas (chalets) in an 18th-century village has been restored to its former splendor and is now a very comfortable 4-star hotel.
Frescoes and antique furniture provide an intriguing contrast to contemporary styling and design, lending a personal atmosphere to the interior of this lovely mountain residence.
Come and enjoy the secluded charm of our receptions rooms, bedrooms and our baitas, tastefully converted into apartments.
Located only a few kilometers from Alagna, Varallo and Lake Orta, less than 2 hours' drive from Milan, Genoa and Turin, and an hour from Milan Malpensa airport, the Relais San Rocco is a high-class setting, the ideal place in which to organize seminars, business meetings, team-building events or open days.
Villa Gianoli, the main part of the San Rocco complex, has two fully-equipped meeting-rooms with seating for 20-30 people. For larger events, just round the corner, there is a charming theater, frescoed in the early 1900s, which has recently been restored and restructured by the Municipal Authority of Campertogno, with a state-of-the-art conference room which can seat 150 people.
The Relais San Rocco is in contact with the main river sports, trekking and winter sports agencies and associations operating in the upper Valsesia.
Because of this, the Relais makes an excellent base for corporate training activities in this beautiful area, where time seems to have stopped.
Our meeting Center can organize car, bus or helicopter transfers from the airports of Malpensa, Linate (Milan) or Caselle (Turin) for individual guests or groups of participants.
Our 24 rooms differ from each other in terms of color, furnishings and structurally. The suites, the apartments in the baitas and double rooms, all of which have LCD TV, a mini-bar and safe, have splendid views over the valley, up to the mountains or over the village.
The charming frescoed dining-rooms and the old kitchen of the house provide the perfect ambience for tasting our refined cuisine, based on local products and traditional recipes.
The Casa alla Piana Restaurant, which is also open to non-residents, serves traditional Walser recipes, as well as typical dishes from the Valsesia, the Val d'Ossola and the Vercelli area, using the finest locally-grown vegetables, meat and fish available, according to the season.
The Alpine scenery of the upper Valsesia is still unspoiled.
It also has a rich historic and artistic heritage. In the 13th century, the Walser people crossed the Alps into this valley, bringing their culture with them. Because of its lush vegetation, the Valsesia is known as the greenest valley in Italy.
Deciduous and coniferous forests, magnificent Alpine pastures and tarns, dominated by the jagged peaks and the glaciers and rock walls of the Monte Rosa massif form the scenery of the upper Valsesia, which has been designated a Parco Naturale, offering plenty of scope to hikers, climbers and naturalists alike.
The Sacro Monte, perched on its hill high above Varallo, contains 45 chapels frescoed in the 16th century by the famous local painters Gaudenzio Ferrari and Tanzio da Varallo.
This unique architectural jewel is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The chapels also contain 800 life-size, full-relief, painted wood and terracotta statues depicting scenes in the life of Jesus. The valley itself is a vast museum which has preserved its quaint, old-fashioned charm over the centuries. The Stadel (typical wooden farmhouses on a stone base) built by the Walser, its votive wayside chapels, and the frescoed facades of its churches are the outward manifestations of a people which produced many skilful craftsmen and artists, many of whom were summoned to work in courts all over Europe.
